The next ILDG group meeting will be held on 14 October in Strasbourg, ahead of the 47th session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities. During this meeting, members will prepare the session and discuss issues to be raised on behalf of the group with the President of PACE, Theodoros Rousopoulos, and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset. Additionally, they will exchange views on ongoing committee work and discuss election observation and monitoring visits.

An exchange of views with Michael O'Flaherty, the Council of Europe's Commissioner for Human Rights, will be a strong highlight of the upcoming meeting. The discussion will focus on the local dimension of human rights. By incorporating a human rights perspective into their everyday work, local authorities can have a meaningful impact on addressing broader human rights challenges. We will explore how human rights principles can be better implemented and strengthened at the local and regional levels, emphasizing the role of local authorities in promoting equality, protecting vulnerable populations, and ensuring access to fundamental freedoms.
